We were close to Atlantic City so decided to stop there to walk on the boardwalk and the beach. But first we stopped to see the Absecon Lighthouse and keeper's residence, built in 1857.
Stairway up to the lighthouse beacon.
We arrived at the beach in time to watch a surfing contest. One contestant was devoured by a shark, but we didn't get a picture. Sorry.
Atlantic City boardwalk scenes.
We drove south along the New Jersey coast.
A coastal marsh.
One of many Monarch butterflies we saw flying south along the coast.
Late in the afternoon we headed west toward Lancaster, PA. A cold front was moving in creating wonderful cloud formations.
We saw this worrisome sign shortly after crossing the Pennsylvania border.
There were no aggressive drivers in Lancaster County, home to several Amish and Mennonite communities. The Amish travel on the wide shoulders of local roads in horse-drawn vehicles and on large scooters.

My toes really love the sand pictures--take me there! they say, all ten at once. Lancaster Co. looks lovely. The guy driving the horse drawn little wagon looks peaceful enough, but maybe you've got to watch out for randomly wild scooters. Yee - hah!
