Washington, PA

Our first stop was Washington, PA, Anne's maternal grandparents' home town.  We visited Washington and Jefferson College, founded in 1781, where Anne's great grandfather taught.

Old Main

Benjamin Franklin funded the original college library.

The Citizens' Library, Washington's local public library, founded in 1870.

Our next stop was the home of Dr. John LeMoyne, an abolitionist whose home was a stop on the underground railroad.

Dr. LeMoyne enjoyed sketching flora and fauna he encountered on his travels.

We had lunch at Shorty's where chili dogs have been the specialty since 1930.

We headed south toward Cumberland, MD, and saw our first real hint of color.
